What is the big deal with St. Patrick's day in the USA? It has nothing to do with the USA. It is
November 1, 2008 - the celebration of the patron saint, which happens to be a RELIGIOUS thing, of IRELAND. As far as I can tell, it's just another excuse for people to drink.

Even if you are not Irish, isn't it always good to have an excuse to feel happy and have fun (im not talking about drinking - people that dont drink normally would not start drinking just because its St. Patricks Day) ... ... By the way, Happy St. Patrick's Day for next Saturday, that coming from a Native American who will be wearing green.

- People just like to get drunk off green beer... its an "excuse" to drink a lot... and run around pinching people... its for fun... when i was in first grade the teacher made little green foot prinks all over the class room and if we followed them we found diffrent things all of them were green.. its all in fun..
- I like it. Embracing and celebrating different cultures is about as all American as it can get. ... I had a friend who DID make a big deal out of May Day because it was her birthday. We all thought it was just clean fun. Ocassionally we learned something too.

And my daughter's 15 year old friend (and family) who is from Russia needs to accept the fact that they now live in American and quit going to specific stores that carry supplies, candies and trinkets that are specifically for Russians. ... ... I mean come on, for people to think that America is the land of the free is just a crock of bull. We really have the wool pulled over their eyes!

- Then you might as well say we shouldn't be celebrating any holidays here in the USA. The majority of our holidays originated in another country. This country is a melting pot of almost every other country in the world. That is America.
