How do i deal with mother's day with a dead mom?
September 9, 2008 - I am thirteen and i just moved to another state and my mom died when i was 10. I don't know how to deal with mother's day. She died off breast cancer and i have very few happy memories of her and the rest are of her being sick since i was 3 and i just am having trouble. Help
I'm so sorry for your loss, especially so young. This is my 6th "Mother-less" mother's day, to cancer as well and I see there's already some really good advice here. I'm hoping that there are some fond memories/moments, however few, that you remember of her. Make a point to remember her that way when you think of her. I am a Mother, and if I were gone, I'd want my kids to take a moment on Mother's Day & think of something about me that makes them laugh or smile, and then go on with whatever they were doing. If it makes you feel good to make a shrine, or look through photos, plant a flower, shed some tears or do something kind for someone else.. then go for it!!! I'm sure you can think of some way to acknowledge your mom... Just keep in mind, there's an awful lot of hype around all of these holidays...it's nice to enjoy them, but we don't have to go nuts...
- aww i am so sorry! make a shrine about your mom. if she has a grave maybe you could buy some little things that reminds you of her and write some nice notes and decorate the area. ya know...make it happy and positive. if thats not what you like (this could work for ashes too...like around the box) you could maybe use someone else to take the place of the 'mother' on the day...like an older sister, a babysitter if you have one, your aunt or grandma, a friends mom...just any female that your close to. you could laugh and make a joke out of it that your using some other person (not in a negative way...just be goofy). i really think that you will find something to do that you like and will have a nice day overall. i wish you luck!
- I'm 15 and my mom died 4 years ago. And I was thinking about what I could do for her. I wanted to feel closer to her so i decided to write her a letter. I know this might sound strange but I never got to say goodbye to her and i havent gotten much closure. So on this mothers day I'm going to tell her all the things that I want her to know. Im not sure what Im going to do with it. My sister wants to take it to her favorite spot in a park where she always went to and tie it to a ballon and let it go but im not sure yet. Well anyway thats just a suggestion for you too. I hope everything goes well for you.
- I think you should do something in her honor...plant a tiny tree, or flowering plant. Send a mother's day card to an old peoples home and address it "to a mom who needs my wishes." There are a lot of old women whose children have abandoned them who could use a pick me up. You could even visit one or two and bring them a cup cake and or home made card. Your mom would want you to love and go on to be the best everything you can. That would certainly please her greatly in her after-life.
- i am sorry for your loss. truly sorry. there are a few things you can do. join a support group. it will help to talk with people who have been through the same thing that you have been through. hopefully you get along good with your dad. that way you can sit down with him and talk to him about how you feel. visit her at the cemetary and talk to her. it will help you because you will feel better once you do that.
- I am so sorry for your loss. My mother also died of breast to bone cancer almost 8 years ago. You could always spend a special day with your dad and brothers or sisters if you have any and reminisce about the fond memories each of you have with her and the family. Take out old photos and think about that day (if you were old enough to remember that day). Cry, don't be afraid to cry, that is almost the only way your body can heal. You said that you moved out of state, so I am guessing visiting her grave is out of the question. I hope I have helped you, even if it was in a small way. Again my condolences.
